Harmony Montessori School
July 2025
In the heart of Outer Southeast Portland, Harmony Montessori School is a place of healing, growth, and belonging for young children and their families. Serving a richly diverse and predominantly low-income community, Harmony offers more than education—it offers hope. Guided by a deep commitment to equity, anti-bias education, and the Montessori philosophy, the school meets children where they are, nurturing their curiosity, resilience, and capacity for joy.
After enduring the devastation of a sewage flood and the challenges of relocation during the pandemic, Harmony persisted—rebuilding classrooms with donated, worn materials while never wavering in its mission. Today, over 80% of its families qualify for public preschool funding, and many face housing instability, language barriers, or systemic inequities. Yet, within Harmony’s walls, children experience a world that sees and uplifts them.
A grant from MGGF for Montessori materials will help restore what was lost—replacing damaged classroom materials with tools worthy of the children who use them. It will help transform make-do spaces into environments that radiate the beauty, order, and dignity every child deserves. At Harmony, the impact of Montessori is not just academic—it’s deeply human, preparing children to become compassionate, capable members of a more just and inclusive world.
