Our History

Montessori Global Growth Fund was started in 2010 by donors who wished to assist Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in Amsterdam renovate and enlarge their offices. Started as a Friends Of 501(c)(3) charity, Association Montessori International of the United States Foundation (AMI/USF) helped to update the infrastructure of the newly expanded AMI facilities. During the following eight years, AMI/USF continued to support upgrades and improvements to AMI.  In 2018, Eleanor Latimer, a board member of AMI/USF, assumed the role of president. Under her leadership, with input from AMI and her board, AMI/USF began to take on an expanded role of helping Montessorians around the world offer Montessori education in under-resourced areas. By the end of 2018, it had become clear that the name AMI/USF did not reflect this new vision. Eleanor and the board decided to change the name, re-domicile the charity to Texas where the organization is located and make it into a general 501(c)(3) charity. The board crafted the new name, Montessori Global Growth Fund, to reflect our revised mission: To free the child’s infinite potential; our broadened vision: To realize Maria Montessori’s vision of a more peaceful world; our new role: To fund grassroots Montessori initiatives that support optimal human development and our focus: Serving under-resources communities around the world. Each word in our name reflects our intent:

Montessori - We believe when Montessori principles are applied in an educational environment, the child can truly explore and learn about themself, enabling them to exercise their full potential.

Global - We reach out to all corners of the world to assist Montessori dreamers to fulfill their goals of offering Montessori education to children everywhere because all children deserve access to a Montessori education.

Growth - We are a resource for those who dream of starting and/or growing their Montessori initiative. We finance the tools to grow their idea into reality.

Fund - Being practical, we know fulfilling dreams requires resources, financial and others. We raise those financial resources for those who need and warrant them.
