Divine Mercy Montessori School
At Divine Mercy Montessori School in Buikwe District, Uganda, education is an act of dignity, hope, and possibility. Guided by humility, service, and educational excellence, the school is committed to nurturing the full potential of every child—especially those whose families face economic barriers—through a Montessori approach that honors each child’s individuality and cultural identity.
This initiative responds to a pressing inequity: while Montessori education is globally recognized for fostering independence, curiosity, and social responsibility, access to authentic Montessori learning in rural Uganda remains rare. Imported materials are costly and often culturally disconnected, while low-quality substitutes undermine the method’s impact. Divine Mercy’s vision is both practical and transformative—combining select high-precision imported materials with locally designed, safely crafted learning tools that reflect children’s lived realities and can be sustained long-term.
With grant funding from MGGF, children will learn in classrooms equipped with developmentally appropriate, engaging Montessori materials that spark concentration, creativity, and a genuine love of learning. Beyond the classroom, local artisans will gain skills and livelihoods through producing and maintaining materials, strengthening families and the wider community.
The expected impact is profound and far-reaching: children who are more confident, capable, and prepared for future schooling; educators who are skilled, motivated, and proud of their profession; and a community that sees education as both accessible and rooted in its own cultural strengths.
