2021

Westabou Montessori opened in 2016 with a small cohort of Children's House preschool students in the Harrisburg neighborhood of Augusta, an under-served community where generational poverty often created barriers to children receiving a quality education. "Westabou" is the indigenous name for the Savannah River, given by the Westo first nation people.

As stated in their application Westabou practices intentional inclusivity with respect to ethnic background, socioeconomic status, capacity, beliefs, and family composition. With a mind to try to balance classrooms with respect to age, gender, and capacity to achieve an environment where each child may develop her/his fullest potential. Our educational programs also serve to help parents or guardians in our neighborhood and community improve their skills enabling them to help foster more confident, secure, and capable children.

Through your generosity MGGF was able to help furnish an additional classroom which allowed enrollment to increase by 50%
