Tartu Forselius School

In Tartu, Estonia, a bold vision is taking root: bringing authentic Montessori education into the public school system so that all children—regardless of background—can learn in an environment that nurtures curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. What began as a community-led effort to open a Montessori classroom for ages 6–12—has lead to the need to now open a second classroom.

A grant from MGGF will be transformational at this critical moment. By funding essential Montessori math materials, this support provides the foundation for deep, hands-on learning—enabling children to move from concrete understanding to abstract thinking with confidence. Just as importantly, it acts as seed funding, unlocking further community investment and ensuring the classroom opens fully prepared.

The impact will extend far beyond a single classroom. Students from diverse backgrounds will gain access to a high-quality, child-centered education within the public system—something previously out of reach for many families. At the same time, this program is building a scalable model for Montessori in municipal schools, one that can be replicated across Estonia.

This is the power of an MGGF grant: a focused investment that not only equips a classroom, but helps shift an entire education system—expanding equity, strengthening communities, and empowering children to reach their full potential.
