Crescent Islamic Montessori School (CIMS)
2025
Crescent Islamic Montessori School (CIMS) is a vibrant educational community committed to serving children ages 3–8 with a culturally responsive, trauma-informed Montessori education. Located in Beaverton, Oregon CIMS is rooted in Islamic values but open to all, embracing the richness of diversity — 92% of students are children of color, every student speaks a language other than English at home, and many come from refugee and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
By supporting their professional development through Montessori-specific training and Early Childhood Education certification at Portland Community College, this grant from MGGF will help ensure that the growing team is equipped to meet the complex needs of their unique student population. Thanks to MGGF's grant these training opportunities will address increasing enrollment and pressing teacher shortages while bolstering the quality of instruction.
Empowering educators with the tools and credentials needed will not only strengthen classroom instruction but also reinforce the values of equity, inclusion, and whole-child learning that define Montessori education. With this support, CIMS teachers can continue to guide children from all walks of life with compassion, creativity, and cultural sensitivity — shaping brighter futures one child at a time.
